South Star's New Website Launched!

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new, interactive website allowing our customers to view our catalog, get recent product updates and catch up on the latest South Star news. The new site uses our 'old' web address, www.southstar.net, but is completely new. The site will be edited and updated on a regular basis, helping to keep our customers current and up-to-date on products and inventory. We will be adding new features in the future to offer framing ideas and advice and to also allow you to comment on new products and ideas. The site will also offer links to our key vendors who are part of our innovative 'Vendor Partner Program'.

Please be aware that we will not be using the website to allow our customers to place orders at this time. We will continue to ask that you call or fax us with your orders.

Thank You Linda....and Best Wishes!

I would like to say a million 'Thanks' to Linda Jones, our departing Customer Service Manager, for all the hard work and heart she gave to South Star during her time with us. A couple of years ago Linda decided to follow her dream of becoming a nurse and enrolled in school to take prerequisite courses for Nursing School. As her studies progress she is required to take more and more hours and making it more difficult to juggle school/work/family/life. She has also been doing volunteer work/training at a local Assisted Living facility. The facility's supervisor, who saw the same great personality and work ethic that we've always appreciated, offered her a part-time position so that she could work in the nursing field while she finishes her schooling. That's an opportunity she just couldn't pass up. They don't know what a gem they are getting.

Linda started with South Star in February of 1997 and for ten plus years has been a blessing and a joy to me, to our company and to our customers. Her bright and bubbly personality and her boundless energy are going to be terribly missed by all of us. We're also going to miss that Mt. Juliet 'twang'!

Best Wishes...we love ya!

Faye...On the Road to Recovery

I would also like to update you on Faye's progress with some serious health issues. As some of you already know, Faye Goolsby, our South Star 'Mom' and my Administrative Assistant for many years was diagnosed with a somewhat rare and serious condition, Temporal Arteritis. Her symptoms began to appear back in November of last year. At first the doctors were not sure of her illness and before they could make a correct diagnosis her condition worsened considerably. Faye had to be hospitalized immediately.

The condition causes considerable inflamation of the body's arteries, especially in the upper body (head, neck, etc). The inflamation causes considerable pain and can attack some very important organs such as your eyes, possibly causing blindness. Before the doctors could diagnose her condition and start her on treatment Faye lost much of the sight in one of her eyes. Doctors immediately started her on a massive regimen of steriod treatments to try to bring the inflamation under control and reduce any further damage to her eyes and other organs. Unfortunately, as some of you may know, steriods are not particularly friendly to the human body, especially in large doses. Somewhat like chemo and radiation treatments can be to cancer patients, the cure can be almost as bad as the disease, but in the end it's hopefully all well worth the suffering.

After her release from the hospital, Faye convalesced for several months in her daughter Angie's home. With treatment, Angie's great care and all of our many prayers, Faye is doing much better and is hopefully on the road to a full recovery. She is now back at home, gaining strength and actually doing work from home. I know she appreciates your many thoughts and prayers. We are looking forward to having her back with us, hopefully very soon!
